Beware of “Bad Blog About You!”

There is a new “scheme” that is quickly making the rounds throughout Twitter to try to steal your personal information.  This comes in the guise of someone, a follower of yours, trying to warn you of a bad blog post about you. Some of the messages come across as either;

I saw a real bad blog about you, you seen this?

There is a rumor/blog going around about you might want to read it

The will take you to a fake Twitter login page that is asking for your username and password.  Once you have entered your username and password, they are no longer yours alone.  Thieves can then use your username and password as they wish.

So what should you do if you’ve already entered your username and password into the real bad blog about you link?

  1. Go through directly and log into your account.
  2. Change your Twitter password immediately.
  3. Check your email address connected to your Twitter account to be sure it has not been changed.
  4. Change the password on any accounts that share the same email as your Twitter account.
  5. If you find that your account is still sending out messages and phony links, go to your Twitter Account Settings and click on Applications. Then choose Revoke Access for any third-party application you don’t recognize.

Hopefully you haven’t fallen prey to this attempt to hijack your twitter profile.  Let us know if this or any other attempts to get your personal information have affected your Twitter profile.
